TOPEKA, Kan. (November 15, 2012)?Members of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan., plan to picket before the start of the Baylor-Kansas State football game Saturday night in Waco.
Church members often picket military funerals, carrying signs that proclaim that the deaths of U.S. troops are God?s punishment for the country?s tolerance of homosexuality.
The church?s focus has apparently expanded, however.
?American puts more value in their sports team than they do in God!? the group said in a posting on its website announcing plans to picket the game.
?(K-State) fans can spout more statistics and facts about the team than they could even begin to tell you about the Bible,? the church said, and ?Baylor is no more Baptist and no more Christian than their bear mascots.?
?God hates K-State & God hates Baylor and we?ll be there to remind you of it,? the church said.
The group also plans to picket the Bruce Springsteen Concert Saturday at the Sprint Center in Kansas City and the U.S. Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas Sunday in Austin ?to remind this nation that God hates the wicked people of this land of vain idolaters and that they shell be turned into Hell.?

Members holding signs with such messages as ?pray for more dead soldiers? gathered outside the gates of Fort Hood while local residents organized a rally in support of the troops in the same area during which funds were being raised for the Wounded Warrior Project.
About 100 area residents took part in the counter demonstration.
About 35 Killeen police officers stood by during the protest, but there were no reports of any major incidents.
In March 2011, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the First Amendment protects members of the fundamentalist church who stage anti-gay protests outside military funerals, picketing with signs displaying such inflammatory messages as "Thank God for dead soldiers.?
The court voted 8-1 in favor of the church, upholding an appeals court ruling that threw out a $5 million judgment awarded to Albert Snyder, the father of a fallen Marine who sued church members after they picketed his son's funeral.
Chief Justice John Roberts wrote that even "hurtful speech" on public issues must be protected, so that debate isn't suppressed, but the court?s lone dissenter, Justice Samuel Alito, said the commitment to free speech doesn't mean the nation has to tolerate what he calls a "vicious verbal assault."
The Marine's family had the support of 48 states, 42 U.S. senators and veterans groups, who said the church protests amounted to "psychological terrorism."
The church's pickets at military funerals led to the creation of the Patriot Guard Riders in 2005, to shield families and other mourners from the protesters and to drown out their chants by singing or revving the engines of their motorcycles.
The members of the group attend funerals of fallen troops, firefighters and police officers at the invitation of families.

Military sources told The Independent that a ground invasion was ?a distinct possibility?. The army has deployed extra infantry units near the Gaza border, halted major exercises, cancelled soldiers? leave and mobilised some reserve forces.
The opening salvo of Operation Pillar of Cloud was the pinpoint assassination by missile of the Hamas military commander, Ahmed al-Jabari, as he drove through Gaza City, followed by aerial attacks against targets throughout the Hamas-controlled enclave. The act itself is beyond criminal. You don?t just get to assassinate military leaders of other countries when you want to. Well, unless of course you happen to be Israel or the United States or France or Britain. Then of course, you do.
Again, this little skirmish started the exact same way Cast Lead did back in 2008. Israel shot and killed two Palestinians in Gaza and then invaded with bulldozers to knock down some more homes.
As expected, Palestinians responded by firing a rocket at an IDF jeep and then Israel got to play the perpetual victim card claiming they were attacked so they launched their well planned Operation Pillar of Defense.
Whether or not this latest attack by the Israelis on yet another of their neighbors (they have attacked Lebanon AND Syria recently) produces as many casualties as Operation Cast Lead (1,400 with over half of them women and children) is beside the point. This is yet another example of the brutal and endless violence and aggression being exerted by Israel in the already unstable Middle East.
They are constantly throwing gasoline on fires over there and this is just one more example. Their program of systematic genocide of the Palestinians is deplorable.
Of course, don?t expect NATO or Hillary Clinton to demand a no-fly zone over Israel to keep them from killing another 1,400 people in Gaza.
And CERTAINLY don?t expect Obama?s apologists who just voted for him again to come out and demand their hero-God to do anything about this. After all, they?re just Palestinians, right?

Johannesburg ? Zambia goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene needed stitches to a cut on his head after being hit by a stone as he boarded the team bus following the African champion?s win over South Africa.
Two boys, aged 12 and 13, have been detained for allegedly throwing the stones.
The goal.com website reported the incident from Wednesday?s friendly at FNB Stadium. The stone appeared to be thrown by a South Africa supporter at Mweene, who plays club football in South Africa.
The Zambian Football Association tweeted in the early hours of Thursday morning: ?Very sad that Zambian bus was stoned and Kennedy ?Mweene sustained a head injury. Has had stitches and is ok, but the ?incident was shameful.?
Mweene is the Zambian team?s goalkeeper and also plays for the Free State Stars in South Africa.
The South African Football Association are investigating the incident.
?I have spoken to our events director and they will be investigating,? Safa spokesman Dominic Chimhavi told Sapa.
Africa Cup of Nations champions Zambia won the game against Bafana Bafana 1-0. Further details on the attack were not immediately available.
The incident was a further embarrassment for South African football ahead of their hosting of the African Cup of Nations early next year after the national team was outplayed by Zambia at the country?s showpiece stadium.

What Is Hypothyroidism?
Primary Hypothyroidism, or under active thyroid gland, may cause a wide variety of symptoms and can affect all bodily functions. The body?s normal rate of functioning slows, causing mental and physical sluggishness.
The symptoms may vary from mild to severe, with the most severe form called myxedema, which is a medical emergency. The secretion of T3 and T4 is controlled by the pituitary gland and the hypothalamus.
Thyroid disorders may result not only from defects in the thyroid gland itself, but also from abnormalities of the pituitary or hypothalamus.
What Causes Hypothyroidism?
The most common cause of Hypothyroidism is Hashimoto?s Thyroiditis, a disease of the thyroid gland where the body?s immune system attacks the gland. The thyroid is gradually destroyed, Hypothyroidism develops. Failure of the pituitary gland to secrete a hormone to stimulate the thyroid gland (secondary Hypothyroidism) is a less common cause of Hypothyroidism. Other causes include congenital defects, surgical removal of the thyroid gland, irradiation of the gland, or inflammatory conditions.
Subacute painless Thyroiditis and subacute painful Thyroiditis can both cause transient Hypothyroidism. The Hypothyroidism is transient because the thyroid is not destroyed.
Hypothyroidism can develop from complete lack of thyroid hormone production because of radioactive iodine or surgical removal of the thyroid gland, both of which are used to treat Hyperthyroidism and thyroid cancer.
Some causes of Hypothyroidism include some inherited disorders in which an abnormality of the enzymes in thyroid cells prevents the gland from making or secreting enough thyroid hormones. In other rare disorders, either the hypothalamus or the pituitary gland fails to secrete enough thyroid-stimulating hormone, which is necessary for normal stimulation of the thyroid.
Symptoms of Hypothyroidism
Insufficient thyroid hormone causes body functions to slow. Symptoms are subtle and develop gradually. They may be mistaken for depression, especially among older people. Facial expressions become dull, the voice is hoarse and speech is slow, eyelids droop, and the eyes and face become puffy.
Many people with Hypothyroidism gain weight, become constipated, and are unable to tolerate cold. The hair becomes sparse, coarse, and dry, and the skin becomes coarse, dry, scaly, and thick. Some people develop carpal tunnel syndrome, which makes the hands tingle or hurt.
Diagnosis of Hypothyroidism
A physical examination reveals delayed relaxation of muscles during tests of reflexes. Pale, yellow skin; loss of the outer edge of the eyebrows; thin and brittle hair; coarse facial features; brittle nails; firm swelling of the arms and legs; and mental dullness may be present. Vital signs may reveal slow heart rate, low blood pressure, and low body temperature.
A chest X-ray may reveal an enlarged heart.
A complete blood count (CBC) that shows anemia.
Laboratory tests to determine thyroid function include:
T4 test (low)
serum TSH (high in primary Hypothyroidism, low or low-normal in secondary Hypothyroidism)
Additional laboratory abnormalities may include:
increased Cholesterol levels
increased liver enzymes
increased serum prolactin
low serum sodium
Usually Hypothyroidism can be diagnosed with one simple blood test: the measurement of thyroid-stimulating hormone. Many experts suggest that the test be performed at least every other year in people older than 55, because Hypothyroidism is so common among older people yet so difficult, in its mild stages, for doctors to distinguish from other disorders that affect people in this age group.
In those rare cases of Hypothyroidism caused by inadequate secretion of thyroid-stimulating hormone, a second blood test is needed to measure the level of the thyroid hormone T4 that is not bound by protein (free). A low level confirms the diagnosis of Hypothyroidism. A total T4 and/or Free T4, and a Total T3 and/or Free T3 should be run in addition to a TSH. (Many doctors use the T3 uptake test, but it is not a direct test of T3 levels, and can be influenced by other hormones.
The T7 test or Free T4 Index is a calculated test and of little value. Then get the actual value of your blood tests and compare them with the lab reference ranges. The lab reference ranges are very wide, and you might not feel well with low normal results. Some doctors realize this, and you might be able to talk him/her into a trial of thyroid hormone with low normal lab values. Often, thyroid antibodies tests and TRH stimulation test are abnormal even when blood tests are within reference ranges.
A TRH stimulation test measures one form of secondary Hypothyroidism, originating in the pituitary gland.
Treatment of Hypothyroidism
Treatment involves replacing thyroid hormone using one of several oral preparations. The preferred form of hormone replacement is synthetic T4. Another form, desiccated (dried) thyroid, is obtained from the thyroid glands of animals. In general, desiccated thyroid is less satisfactory than synthetic T4 because the content of thyroid hormones in the tablets may vary. In emergencies, such as myxedema coma, doctors may give synthetic T4, T3, or both intravenously.
Treatment begins with small doses of thyroid hormone, because too large a dose can cause serious side effects, although large doses may be necessary. The starting dose and the rate of increase are especially small in older people, who are often most at risk of side effects. The dose is gradually increased until the levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone in the person?s blood return to normal.

LONDON (AP) ? A European official says her staff members were hacked when they joined her for a conference on Internet security in Azerbaijan.
European Commission Vice President Neelie Kroes said in a blog post Saturday that her advisers' computers were compromised as they attended a meeting of the Internet Governance Forum in Baku, the Azeri capital.
Her spokesman, Ryan Heath, said the attack occurred while they were in their hotel.
Heath said he and a colleague got messages from Apple Inc. warning them that their computers had been accessed by an unauthorized party, something he said he believed was an attempt to spy on him.
"I'm presuming it was some kind of surveillance," he said in a telephone interview. "What we're going to do is to get the computers forensically analyzed to see what if anything was taken out of them."
He declined to say who he thought might be responsible.
Kroes was critical of her hosts when speaking before the forum on Wednesday, attacking the Azeri government for allegedly spying on activists through the Internet and "violating the privacy of journalists and their sources."
In her blog post Saturday, Kroes cited the hacking as one of several violations which she said highlighted the "harsh" reality of political life in Azerbaijan, an oil-rich nation on the shores of the Caspian Sea.
Kroes said that Azeri authorities reneged on a deal to allow her to see political prisoners, and she claimed that activists at the Internet conference were harassed.
"So much for openness," she wrote.
